Designing from Photographs
Create a landscape or other nature-inspired quilt based on your own photograph. Six hours (two 3-hour sessions, can be the same day)
Session I:
Create the basic drawing to be used to create the quilt. Learn how to simplify, isolate or rearrange elements. (3 hours)
Session II:
Create the quilt top using techniques which may include fusing, pieced backgrounds, adding yarns and other non standard materials. Students are limited only by their own imaginations.
Both sessions will discuss construction techniques including sewing, quilting and finishing.

(Self) Portraits--Fun & Fanciful
Make a fun and fanciful self portrait that reflects your personality. It can be as real or fanciful as you like. Learn methods that also apply to making portraits of others. One three-hour session.

A Binder's Dozen
A workshop covering a dozen (or more) different ways to finish your quilt. In this three hour workshop, students will finish samples using facings, zig zag binding, pillowcase method and more, including tips and tricks for working with traditional bindings. Choose the best finishing touch for your quilt.

Lectures
A Quilting Life--The Good, the Bad, the Unfinished
My journey as a quilter, starting with making traditional quilts and my transition to art quilts. The good, the bad and the ugly (or, at least, the UFOs)! Tips for leading a productive quilting life. Slides and trunk show including both quilts I've made and some of my personal collection.

Designing from Photos
Principles for going from a photograph to a quilt. Which kinds of pictures work, how to simplify pictures, how to combine elements from different pictures. Includes my tips for taking better photographs. Slides and trunk show.


Use All the Colors!
There are literally millions of colors out there, let's use all of them! This lecture takes some of the mystery out of color theory. Learn how to broaden your approach to color so that your quilts pop! We explore fun and practical ways to play with color in your quilts. Slides and trunk show.

Three Hour Workshop: $350
Six Hour Workshop: $600
(Discount for Lecture and Workshop booked together. Prices do not include travel expenses including mileage.) Accommodation may be in hotel or in private smoke-free home if overnight stay required.
